Accessibility statement
Effective May 22, 2026
Candleread is built to be usable by keyboard, screen readers, touch devices, and learners who need reduced motion or clear structure. Accessibility is part of the launch gate, not a post-launch chore.
Standard we work toward
Our target is WCAG 2.2 AA across public pages and core learning surfaces. The prelaunch smoke suite currently checks key routes with automated axe coverage for serious and critical WCAG 2.0/2.1 A/AA violations, plus route, link, timing, and mobile/desktop behavior.
Current practices
- Semantic headings, landmarks, links, and buttons where possible.
- Keyboard-operable primary navigation, course actions, quiz controls, and forms.
- Visible focus states and touch targets designed for at least 44 px where launch smoke covers shared course controls.
- Reduced-motion handling for non-essential animation where motion is used.
- Plain-language error, empty, loading, and recovery states as the product matures.
Known limits before final public launch
Automated checks are not a complete accessibility audit. Before a broad public launch, Candleread still needs owner sign-off on the full launch gate, including manual keyboard and screen-reader passes on the homepage, signup/checkout, and core lesson flow.
