Explain how swap-free accounts make retail trading compatible with Islamic finance principles.

The swap is the thing to fix

Islamic finance has a clear principle: riba, which is interest, is not allowed. In a normal retail trading account, every position held past the daily rollover incurs an overnight interest charge or credit called a swap. That swap is exactly the kind of riba most scholars view as non-compliant. So a Muslim trader cannot simply use a standard account and call it good.

Wick compares a swap card describing overnight interest, or riba, with an admin fee card describing a flat cost fee, teaching how swap-free accounts fit Islamic finance.SwapOvernightinterest, calledriba, not allowedAdmin feeA flat fee forcosts, not fortime
Wick saysSwap-free accounts replace interest with a flat admin fee not tied to time.

Swap-free accounts solve the riba problem in a specific way. Instead of charging or paying interest on positions held overnight, the broker replaces the swap with a fixed administrative fee, sometimes only after a position has been open for a set number of days. The fee is meant to cover broker operational costs rather than represent the time value of money, which is the structural feature most scholars accept.

Wick holds a green card saying named Sharia board with written proof and a coral card saying a swap-free badge alone, teaching how to verify compliance.Do thisNamed Shariaboard, writtenproofNot thisA swap-free badgealone
Wick saysA swap-free label is not proof. Look for a named Sharia board and written certification.

Two things still belong to the trader. First, asset choice. Spot forex on major pairs is generally considered acceptable on a swap-free account. Equities of companies whose primary business is haram, such as alcohol, conventional banking, or gambling, remain non-compliant regardless of how your account is structured. Second, broker verification. A swap-free product without a named Sharia board is a marketing label, not a religious clearance.

Wick holds a clipboard checking major forex pairs and crossing out alcohol and gambling company stocks, teaching that asset choice is part of compliance. What you tradeMajor forex pairsAlcohol company stockGambling company stock
Wick saysWhat you trade matters too. Some company stocks stay off-limits on any account.

Recap: swap-free accounts remove interest on overnight positions and replace it with a flat admin fee. Compliance also depends on what you trade and on a real Sharia advisory board signing off.
