Change of character (ChoCh) is a refinement of break of structure. While BoS can happen in either direction (continuation or reversal), ChoCh specifically refers to the FIRST structure break that goes against an established trend. It's the chart's way of saying "the trend has changed character."
In an uptrend, a ChoCh happens when price breaks below the most recent significant higher low — the FIRST time this happens after the trend started. That single break doesn't mean the trend is over forever, but it means the immediate trend is questioned and you should look for shorts (or at least stop looking for longs).
